QAUL_Op is a series of images which present a visual analogy between modular synthesis and Artificial Intelligence. The drawings fit ‘Qualia’ within a computational brain structure by placing it parallel to the arisal of sound within the mechanics of a synthesizer. The images frame synthesis and signal flow as a metaphor for the syntactic processing of 0’s and 1’s in a computer, and in doing so portray the “intrinsic content of the subjective state” as a throbbing and twisting mesh which clings to its circuit board. The “operator” in each drawing serves to locate each patch point or lobe which receives, modulates and transmits the signal flow for it can be analyzed as qualitative information or sound.
